Stephen J. Percassi Jr., P.E.
B.S. Civil Engineering, 1999
M.S. Civil Engineering, 2000
Steve is an Associate with Erdman Anthony Consulting Engineers in Rochester, NY, where he works as a structural engineer. “My education at UB proved to be such an important step in preparing me for both a design and construction environment. Many of Erdman Anthony’s engineers have come from UB. I am very proud of my background and will continue to encourage graduates to start their career with our company.” Recently, Steve was the structural design engineer for the replacement of the Troup Howell Bridge in downtown Rochester. Steve said the best part about being involved in such an important project was that, “This structure will be a part of my hometown for many years to come. My grandchildren will someday drive over this bridge and I will be able to tell them that I helped to build it. I can’t imagine a better feeling than that!”
Michael Astrella
B.S. Civil Engineering, 2001
M.S. Structural Engineering, 2004
Michael is a structural engineer with Weidlinger Associates, Inc. in New York, NY. He has been a part of design teams for small and large projects involving new and retrofit construction, and has designed steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry structural systems. “Everything that I learn in practice builds on what I learned at UB. I am continually impressed by how well I am prepared for what I do from day-to-day, even in areas like timber and masonry design, in which I never had formal training. I am very proud of what I do and I am excited to be contributing to the built environment. I have been fortunate to work with Weidlinger so early in my career. The combination of world-class projects; decades of history and experience to learn from and build on; and the respect of management for staff has really impressed me, and has made my first 5 years in the field a very rewarding experience.”
Kelly Miller
B.S. Environmental Engineering, 2008
Kelly was a UB Honors Student and recipient of the highly prestigious Morris K. Udall Scholarship. Kelly spent the summer of 2007 making a difference for the people of Honduras by her work involving household drinking water filtration systems. She graduated with honors in 2008. Her projects for Pure Water for the World included about 200 interviews with households concerning their drinking water and filtration systems. For Miller, the best thing about this internship is the young children she met. “They are the ones most affected by water contamination - children under age five are a high risk group for death from waterborne illnesses and diarrhea.” After gratuation, Kelly worked for Greenpeace and is currently enrolled in graduate study at MIT.
Ed Bradfuhrer
B.S. Environmental Engineering, 2009
Alumnus Ed Bradfuhrer's trek from Hamburg, New York to UB’s undergraduate program in environmental engineering crisscrossed the United States. After high school, he served as a Marine Corps musician at San Diego’s Mirimar Air Station before entering UB. After graduating with his B.S. in Environmental Engineering in 2009, Ed joined Stearns and Wheler, GHD, a nationally prominent environmental engineering consulting firm. Since starting at Stearns and Wheler, GHD he has modeled drinking water systems for small towns, designed a microhydro power system, designed a septic system for a rural school and analyzed a sewage collection system for an entire county. According to Ed, “the demanding class work at UB made me feel as if I can solve any problem a client brings to me.”
