Catalogue Description

Provides students with the background to conduct experiments at the bench, pilot and field scale for the purposes of: (1) understanding environmental processes and (2) collection of data needed for design/management decisions. The laboratories focus on the physical, chemical, and hydrodynamic processes governing pollutant fate in treatment facilities and natural systems.

Course Objectives/Outcomes

Consistent with the mission and vision of the Department, the objectives of the Environmental Engineering Practicum class are to:

  1. Provide students with engineering knowledge and skills that allow them to work effectively as Environmental Engineers and related job functions in consulting, industry , government, and academia;

  2. Provide students with hands on experience in developing testing programs to answer environmental design and management questions.

  3. Develop independent thinking and effective implementation skills that will be needed to execute job related tasks.

  4. Provide opportunities for students to develop confidence in preparing and delivering high quality written and oral presentations that demonstrate an understanding of the impact of civil and environmental engineering solutions in a global and societal context;
