Research Centers

Center for Integrated Waste Management (CIWM)

Research and development in environmental technologies and waste-management strategies for sustainable economic development and to reduce risk to human health, protect environmental ecosystems, and conserve natural, industrial, and community resources; includes New York State Center for Hazardous Waste Management (NYSCHWM)

Great Lakes Program (GLP)

Basic and applied research, education, and outreach activities and resources related to management and protection of the Great Lakes ecosystem

Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER)

Research in and application of advanced and emerging technologies to reduce earthquake damage and losses through improved engineering, pre-earthquake planning, and post-earthquake recovery strategies

HIGHLIGHT

Steel Plate Pic

In an experiment run on a shake table in CSEE's earthquake engineering lab, a steel plate shear wall specimen dissipates seismic energy by large cyclic inelastic deformations. Such research may lead to cost-effective, replaceable damage absorbing components for large structures.
