"The first time I came to Buffalo to study, it was only through the exchange program. The second time I came, it was on my own because I like Buffalo and I want to study with this group."
Karl came to Buffalo first through an exchange program with Darmstadt University where he was studying hydraulic engineering. He studied with the groundwater group at UB because it was close to hydraulics and he wanted to work in an area that he could pursue both in the U.S. and back in Germany. He returned home to work as a consultant and then came back to UB for doctoral studies.
He's working in the field of reactive transport in groundwater flow on a regional scale, and he plans to do consulting in groundwater remediation in Germany. Right now he's enjoying the work at UB: "The faculty is very helpful, very close. My grad student colleagues are all close. It's good."
