Geotechnical Engineering
Geotechnical engineering plays a vital role in the design and construction of the nation's civil infrastructure against natural forces, as well as in its maintenance and rehabilitation. It also deals with the challenging task of maintenance of the quality of our land and groundwater resources. The M.E. Geotechnical Engineering Track is designed as a practice-oriented degree program and is well suited for students who wish to pursue a professional career in design and construction of geotechnical and geoenvironmental facilities. Specialized topics include: foundations, ground improvement, seismic retrofitting of slopes and embankments and retaining walls, landfills, below-ground waste containment, and soil clean-up.
