Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering
The master of engineering (M.Eng.) program in civil engineering is meant to provide postgraduate training for students wishing to improve their knowledge base in engineering and to gain additional design capability, beyond the undergraduate degree.
This is a design- and practice-oriented program suitable for students planning to pursue professional careers in consulting, industry and government service.

Students may choose from five different areas of concentration:
Degree Requirements
General degree requirements include at least 24 credits of approved graduate coursework and 6 credits of engineering project.
Registration in Engineering Project (CIE 557 and/or CIE 558) is required for the project component of the M.Eng. program. Students are encouraged to participate in the M.Eng. group project that is offered each academic year under the supervision of CSEE faculty and professional engineers from industry or government. Joint involvement from CSEE faculty and interested practicing engineers is viewed as a positive aspect of the professionally oriented M.Eng. program.
Degree Timetable
The program is designed to be completed within 9 to 11 months for full-time students. It is expected that most students in the program will be studying full time and will start their programs in the fall semester. However, allowances will be made for part-time students and, in exceptional cases, for students wishing to start in the spring.
Prerequisites
Certain basic undergraduate coursework is considered essential for all students intending to earn the M.Eng. degree in civil engineering, including:
Calculus and differential equations Probability and statistics Engineering mechanics Structural or environmental design Soil mechanics Fluid mechanics and hydraulics
Admission criteria for the M.Eng. program is the same as for all CSEE master degree programs (see Admissions) with the following exception. Applicants with academic backgrounds in architecture, management, or law may be admitted to the construction engineering and management track. In this case, however, some remedial coursework from the list above may be required.
Financial Assistance
M.Eng. applicants who are New York State residents may be eligible for a partial tuition scholarship depending on qualifications and availability of funds.
