National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship

Applications for the 2003-2004 competition for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship program are now available. NSF will award approximately 900 new Graduate Research Fellowships to support graduate study in science, mathematics, and engineering. Each three-year fellowship provides a stipend of $21,500 for 12-month tenure, and a cost-of-education allowance of $10,500 per tenure year. Awards will be announced in March 2003. In an experiment run on a shake table in CSEE's earthquake engineering lab, a steel plate shear wall specimen dissipates seismic energy by large cyclic inelastic deformations. Such research may lead to cost-effective, replaceable damage absorbing components for large structures.
